The Republican-controlled Senate health committee early Friday requested that Terri Schiavo and her husband, Michael, appear at a hearing March 28 on health care for "non-ambulatory persons." The move to include Terri Schiavo, who is in a coma, was meant to block the removal of her tube, now set for 1 p.m. ET, at least until the hearing is held.

In a press release, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, himself a doctor, noted that federal law "protects witnesses called before official Congressional committee proceedings from anyone who may obstruct or impede a witness' attendance or testimony."

Brilliant.

What disturbs me is the fact that a judge may now decide who is to live or die. And increasingly, judges are erring on the side of killing the person in question, rather than in preserving his life. We get closer and closer to the Netherlands, where you can be killed by a doctor, without the consent of family members or friends....if the doctor deems your life unworthy, he can end it.
